The Paducah Symphony has learned it will receive $2 million in state funding for a new music academy.
Funding for the project was included in HB 1, the state's two-year spending plan.
The plan is to use a historic building in downtown Paducah that served as the symphony's original home. In addition, the funds will help cover the cost of the ongoing renovations and create spaces for students and administrators to work and learn music.
Paducah Symphony Director Reece King said the project will build on Paducah's reputation as an art and economic powerhouse.
State Representative Steven Rudy made the announcement on Thursday.
