Paducah Public Schools announced an expansion of its Test to Stay program on Tuesday.

After noting a successful launch of the program in a Facebook post, school officials announced an expansion to include students who want to participate in school-based extracurricular activities, including athletics. The 'Test to Play' program kicked off on Tuesday.

The programs allow students to attend school and participate in school-based activities even if they have been exposed to COVID-19, as long as they meet the following criteria:

• The student's parents must sign a testing consent form and bring the student each morning to the designated testing area;
• The student must show no symptoms;
• Wearing a mask will be required indoors at school;
• The program is only valid if the student was exposed to COVID-19 at school;
• They must quarantine when not at school;
• The student must test negative daily.

Students that test negative will be allowed to ride the bus home in the afternoon.

For contact sports, student-athletes will be required to take an additional COVID-19 test before an athletic contest. In addition, they must wear a mask while not actively engaged in the contest.

Participation in the programs is voluntary and not required for students who are vaccinated.
