The Paducah City Commission on Wednesday approved a resolution that will transfer the city's Section 8 program to the Housing Authority of Paducah.
For more than five years, the Housing Authority has managed the program through a contractual management agreement. The Section 8 office’s board desires that the program be transferred to the Housing Authority for efficiency reasons, and so that housing opportunities can be expanded and strengthened.
In other action, commissioners approved a measure to purchase 50 new radios for the Paducah Fire Department at the amount of $218,325 and six self contained breathing apparatus at a cost of $49,380.
The commission approved a municipal order authorizing the purchase of real property located at 600 Glenwood Drive from the Paducah Independent School Board for $120,000.
Gregory Guebert, who had been serving as the city's interim engineer, was named city engineer. Guebert was hired as assistant city engineer in 2021. He has been serving as interim for the past year following the retirement of previous city engineer, Rick Murphy.
The commission also approved a contract for services with Columbia Art House, Inc. for renovation of the facade of the Columbia Theater building. In February the commission pledged to financially support Columbia Art House in the first phase of restoration with matching funds not to exceed $500,000.
