One person was taken to the hospital after a reported explosion at a home in Hendron this afternoon.

The McCracken County Sheriff’s Office said they responded at about 2:30 pm to the 300 block of Schmidt Road after Paducah E-911 dispatch told deputies that a house had exploded and people were running out.

As deputies arrived, the house was reportedly fully engulfed in flames. Investigation showed the owner of the residence was lighting a furnace or heater when the explosion occurred.

He was transported from a local hospital to Nashville for treatment of injuries.

People are asked to stay out of the area as first responders and utility crews continue to work this evening.
