A man accused of stealing letters and packages from mailboxes in Calloway County now faces felony charges.
Twenty-nine-year-old Austin Jones of Murray was originally arrested on charges of theft of mail matter, and possession of stolen mail.
The Calloway County Sheriff’s Office said that on December 18, its 911 center received several reports of an unmarked vehicle tampering with mailboxes in the Panorama Shores area.
Deputies found a suspect, who they said had removed packages and letters from at least 12 mailboxes. They said there was no evidence that any packages were taken from porches.
A search warrant was executed at Jones' residence. The sheriff’s office said multiple items from other victims were found, along with weapons.
A warrant for additional charges was served Tuesday at Jones' home for ten additional counts of possession of stolen mail, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
He was lodged at the Calloway County Detention Center.
