A Murray man was arrested Friday night following a traffic stop on N 12 Street and Octane Drive.
The Calloway County Sheriff's Office said the Marshall County K-9 Office assisted in the investigation and an open-air sniff of the vehicle, which resulted in the K-9 alerting to the presence of illegal drugs.
A small quantity of drugs was found inside the vehicle and the passenger, 43-year-old Chad Smith, was discovered to be in possession of 3.8 grams of methamphetamine. Smith was arrested and taken to the Calloway County Detention Facility.
While at the jail, it was reported that Smith tried to destroy or hide methamphetamine that he had concealed on his person within the secure area. During a subsequent search, he attempted to dispose of another bag of meth and resisted being placed in handcuffs.
Smith was charged with trafficking in a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, promoting contraband, tampering with physical evidence and resisting arrest.
