An alderman for the City of Metropolis passed away unexpectedly over the weekend.

A post on Saturday from the Metropolis Police Department announced the sudden passing of Ward 4 Alderman Chad Lewis.

Lewis was also a board member of the Greater Metropolis Convention and Visitors Bureau.

Last September Lewis was named as the Philanthropy/Marketing Manager for the Massac Memorial Hospital Foundation. He was previously an employee at Harrah's Metropolis for 22 years.

Lewis is being memorialized online with responses to posts from several city Facebook accounts.

The post from the City of Metropolis, Metropolis Police, and Metropolis Fire said:
“Chad was a dedicated public servant who cared deeply about our community and worked to make Metropolis a better place for all who call it home. His service, commitment, and friendship will be remembered and appreciated by many.
On behalf of the City of Metropolis, we extend our heartfelt condolences to Chad’s family, friends, and loved ones during this difficult time. We ask the community to keep them in their thoughts and prayers as they mourn this tremendous loss.
Chad’s contributions to our city will not be forgotten, and he will be greatly missed.”

Lewis is survived by his wife and two boys.

Details and funeral arrangements have not yet been released.
