The McCracken County Sheriff's Office is warning residents of a re-emergence of a previously used scam.
The Sheriff’s Office said the scam being used is where a person acts as a member of the sheriff's office. The scammer states the person has missed court in which they had been subpoenaed as an expert witness. They said this latest scam may be specifically targeting health care workers.
The Sheriff's Office said law enforcement agencies will not call to ask for money in lieu of being arrested for a warrant or for any other court related services.
They are asking that if you receive a phone call alleging to be from a law enforcement agency and the person is asking for money, please call your local law enforcement agency. If it is a legitimate phone call, the local agency can tell you and guide you on what to do.
