Sheriff: Alleged Reidland abduction was staged

The McCracken County Sheriff's department said Thursday they have determined an alleged abduction in Reidland this week was staged, and the allegations are false.

Authorities said they had been hesitant to release details for several reasons including not wanting to prejudice any possible future witnesses or notifying a possible suspect what law enforcement had found or knew. As an extra precaution, deputies conducted extra patrols in the Reidland area.

The incident began earlier this week when an 18-year-old female was reported missing. 
 
Authorities said the female was later located at a home on Kentucky Dam Road. Her hands were reportedly bound and she had sustained non-incapacitating injuries. The Sheriff's Office said the female told them she had been taken by an unknown male.
