The McCracken County Sheriff's Office is advising motorists to plan for extra time and use patience when traveling on I-24 in the vicinity of the Ohio River Bridge.
The sheriff's office reports that because of the construction on the bridge, several vehicles are changing direction or being directed by GPS to the Brookport Bridge with the idea of saving time.
However, this activity is resulting in just as much traffic congestion and backup in the city and on US 45.
They also remind semi-truck drivers that it is against the law to drive a semi across the Brookport Bridge, not to mention the fact that those trucks will not fit on the bridge.
Semi drivers will be cited for disregarding a traffic control device if they attempt to cross the Brookport Bridge.
