On Friday, Governor Andy Beshear was in Paducah to present checks to three counties for infrastructure improvements.
The governor handed out checks totaling $3.8 million between McCracken, Marshall and Lyon County, with McCracken County claiming $2.4 million from the Clean Water Program.
Marshall County received $1.1 million, while Lyon County received $301 thousand to improve infrastructure.
The Paducah-McCracken County Joint Sewer Agency received $1.2 million, with the funds going to help fund system-wide maintenance and improvements to aging infrastructure. About $120,000 will be used to fund work on manholes, and more than a million to rehabilitate a sanitary main.
Paducah Water Works also received $1.2 million, going towards the midtown area water main replacement project.
"McCracken County is kind of stretched thin on finances," said McCracken County Judge-Executive Craig Clymer.
"We've got a lot of projects we're working on, and with the state coming through, the governor coming through with this money," said Clymer. "It takes money we would have to spend on some of these projects and lets us put them on other projects."
