At Monday's meeting, the McCracken County Fiscal Court saw a presentation for growth and renovation at Carson Park.
The project draws suggestions and ideas from a plan commissioned in 1937 by Luther F. Carson who donated the park to the county. The plan keeps horses as a focus, much like how it was designed initially. One major addition to the park would be a multipurpose building that could be utilized as a Farmer's Market or rented as an event space. Renderings showed the concepts of that building plus structure at entry points to the park that look like those found on a horse farm.
Other items discussed included a bridle path through the park which could be used for riding horses or exercising. Floral Hall would get updates including adding windows back to the facility, the way it was originally designed. A show ring that could be used for horse shows or could even host concerts would be incorporated in front of the grandstand. Space for the McCracken County Fair would be maintained, as well.
The master plan was presented by Jonathan Perkins of BFW/Marcum Engineering and Consulting. All of the items and proposals are preliminary and would have to be further discussed by the commission to determine what is feasible financially.
