After weeks of back and forth between McCracken County and Paducah, some common ground has finally been reached regarding the E-911 and sportsplex projects.

McCracken County Judge-Executive Craig Clymer told commissioners on Monday he had met with Paducah Mayor George Bray at least three times over the last week. He said he had urged the city to come out with a joint statement that both governments had resolved their issues regarding the E-911 system and the sports complex.

That statement finally came on Tuesday. Both the city and county governments have agreed to move forward on the projects, based on the two Memoranda of Understanding that were approved last year.

Bray said; “The City agrees that the Outdoor Sports Complex is a tremendous opportunity for a sports facility for our residents, as well as a significant economic development achievement through tourism. We are committed to partnering with the County to ensure this project is a resounding success.”

Clymer added;  “I understand the concerns the City of Paducah has as the owner of a 911 system which has reached its end of life, and I agree that we must proceed with an enhanced sense of urgency. I am committed to fully supporting the 911 Committee that has been appointed and to doing everything possible to finalize the 911 interlocal agreement by the end of this year or sooner, if possible.”

Both bodies have agreed to proceed with a sense of urgency on the two projects.
