A Mayfield man was arrested Friday after reportedly assaulting a deputy.
A Graves County deputy first encountered 34-year-old Jeffrey M Mays walking in the middle of West Broadway, and refusing to yield to traffic.
When the deputy approached, the situation immediately turned into a physical altercation and the deputy being assaulted. A taser was utilized but had no effect on Mays.
The deputy was assisted by multiple persons that had witnessed the altercation as they were driving by. Their assistance enabled the deputy to gain control of Mays, and the situation was ended.
The deputy suffered minor facial injuries, and damage to his handheld radio that was grabbed and thrown by the suspect.
Mays was charged with assault on a police officer, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, criminal mischief and impeding traffic.
He was treated at a local hospital then taken to an out-of-county detention center.
