A Graves County jury handed down a guilty verdict pertaining to drug charges from a 2023 arrest.
The jury found 39-year-old Brandon I. Cavette guilty of trafficking in over 5 pounds of marijuana, trafficking in methamphetamine and being a persistent felony offender. Cavette was found to also have felony convictions in other states for drug trafficking. His formal sentencing will be at a later date.
Cavette was arrested in January 2023 by Graves Sheriff's deputies after a search of his home on Key Bottom Road. They seized 15 pounds of processed marijuana, 4,226 Ecstasy pills, and 3,255 Etizolam pills, along with $8,000 dollars in cash.
Cavette still has a pending case where he is charged with attempting to hire individuals from the Houston, Texas area to kill former Graves County Commonwealth Attorney Richie Kemp, as retaliation for Kemp's efforts in prosecuting him on the charges of which he was convicted last week. The specific charge, Retaliating Against a Participant in a Legal Process, is a felony.
The threats made by Cavett were secured by way of audio recordings.
