Lt. Governor Jacqueline Coleman made a swing through western Kentucky bringing funding for education, infrastructure, and tourism projects.
Coleman made stops in Murray, Mayfield, and Benton.
While in Benton, Coleman, a former teacher, presented Marshall County Schools with $9,590,200 for a new vocational center. The money is part of about $750 million in federal American Rescue Plan Act funds for schools, better access to high-speed internet, clean drinking water, and quality sewer systems across Kentucky.
Marshall County also received $527,158 from the Delta Regional Authority to create a second access point to the Southwest Industrial Complex across from South Marshall Middle School.
North Marshall Water District, Calvert City, and Hardin received money from Governor Beshear's Clean Water Program. The three districts received $480,779 each for water main and treatment plant upgrades. North Marshall Water District will use its funds to replace about 3 miles of water main damaged in the December 2021 tornado.
The Marshall County Tourism Commission was also awarded funds out of the American Rescue Plan Act. The organization was given $163,199 out of a fund designed to help boost industry and tourism following the pandemic decline.
In her earlier stop in Murray, Coleman announced $755,000 for the Dexter-Almo Heights Water District and $158,002 for the Murray Convention and Visitors Bureau.
At her stop in Mayfield, Coleman announced that Graves County received $963,116 each for the Graves County Water District and the Mayfield Electric and Water Systems for water tanks and the Mayfield water treatment plant. Symsonia and Wingo each received $150,000 to refurbish water tanks, as well. Coleman also announced $ 66,431 for the Mayfield Tourism Commission.
