Lone Oak Elementary is named a National Blue Ribbon School

Lone Oak Elementary has been named a 2024 National Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education.

Lone Oak is one of five public schools in Kentucky and the only school in Western Kentucky to achieve the honor based on overall academic excellence. The school was honored as an Exemplary High-Performing School, meaning it was among the best in the state based on state and/or national testing.

Kentucky Commissioner of Education Robbie Fletcher said, "I congratulate and thank our newest Blue Ribbon Schools for their hard work to ensure every student has the skills they need for a successful future. This award highlights the commitment to excellence that teachers, staff, families and communities have, as well as their dedication to be 'All In' for their students."

U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona added, "The 2024 National Blue Ribbon Schools are raising the bar for our nation's students, serving as models for effective teaching and intentional collaboration in their schools and communities."

The other public schools in Kentucky that were honored included Corbin Middle School (Corbin Independent), Cold Hill Elementary School (Laurel County), Northern Elementary School (Pulaski County), and Shirley Mann Elementary School (Boone County). Two private schools were honored, as well. Those were Covington Holy Cross High School and Saint Albert the Great School in Louisville.

Lone Oak Elementary has a history of achievement. In its nomination papers for the award, it was noted that the school ranked sixth out of 657 elementary schools in Kentucky during the 2022-2023 school year on the state assessment test.

All of the Blue Ribbon Schools will be honored at a ceremony in Washington later in the school year.
