Superintendents of western Kentucky school districts affected by the December tornadoes asked for an extended freeze on a formula that ties school funding to average daily attendance.

This year's formula, already frozen from school disruptions from the coronavirus pandemic, allowed districts to use attendance data from the 2018-19 or the 2019-20 school years rather than the current year.

In a meeting with state education officials this week, school leaders in the storm-ravaged areas said that they would like to see the freeze extended for up to five more years.
