Kenlake State Resort Park and Kentucky Dam Village State Resort Park will both see a major infrastructure upgrade soon, with allocations from the Kentucky Grid Resilience Grant Program.
The parks will each receive $7.8 million to modernize their electrical systems. The upgrades aim to ensure both parks remain operational during tornadoes, floods, and other severe weather events.
The parks have been used in recent years to house first responders during the pandemic, and by families displaced by tornadoes and floods in western Kentucky.
But aging infrastructure has made it difficult to maintain reliable power there during extreme conditions. The new investment will address current vulnerability by improving electrical resilience, so the parks can be stable response centers during future emergencies.
Work is expected to begin this fall and finish next year.
