Heat advisory in effect this afternoon; expected to continue Thursday

The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for a portion of our region starting at noon today until 7 p.m.

Heat index readings of 102 to 109 can be expected in western Kentucky west of the lakes; in southernmost Illinois south of Marion; and all of southeast Missouri.

Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause some heat-related illnesses.

The same conditions are expected on Thursday, and another heat advisory is expected to be needed.
