The on-again, off-again saga of a Buc-ee's Travel Center being built in western Kentucky is on again.

On Tuesday night, the Oak Grove City Council approved an incentives package for the Texas-based chain to bring the project back to southern Christian County.

In March of 2022 came the first word of a planned Buc-ee's on I-24, but the proposed Oak Grove site reportedly did not "meet the extensive checklist" required by the popular convenience megastore.

By December of 2022, an alternate Clarksville location was proposed, but less than a year later that project was also scuttled.

Buc-ee's project coordinator Angela Janik was at Tuesday's meeting. WKDZ reported that she thanked the Oak Grove council and KYTC for finally making it happen. She said they hope to close on the property later this month and begin construction in the spring.

Plans are for 200 new jobs to be offered at the store that will feature 140 gas pumps and EV chargers, along with their signature sandwiches and food products.

Buc-ee's now has more than 40 stores in 8 states, including two already in Kentucky at Richmond and at Smith's Grove near Bowling Green, which opened in June.
