McCracken County Schools officials reported Friday that that two "female trespassers" entered Reidland Intermediate School on Friday morning.
The statement from the schools said the pair entered through a side door at about 8:55 a.m. Officials said they think the two were able to gain access because recently installed weatherstripping prevented the door from fully latching.
Prior to gaining access, the female trespassers attempted to open several other locked exterior doors.
The school said their assigned School Resource Officer met the individuals within three minutes of them entering the building, and questioned them about how they got inside. The SRO escorted them out of the building without incident.
The trespassers told the SRO that they were looking for the “It’s All Relative” event that was actually being held off campus on Paducah's Southside.
The school statement said the incident is a "stark reminder" to be alert at all times in the schools.
McCracken County Schools Campus Police and the Sheriff's office are investigating, and are in contact with the County Attorney’s office. McCracken County Schools said they will not tolerate unauthorized individuals attempting to enter school buildings.
