An investigation into a burglary that took place back in January has resulted in the arrest of two men.

Deputies with the Calloway County Sheriff's Office began investigating a burglary at a home on Beat Farm Road back on January 27th. Deputies said that the homeowner found a door pried open and tools and guns missing.

Information obtained during their investigation led to the execution of a number of search warrants. Some of the stolen items were located at the Murray home of 46-year-old James P. Burress. Burress was arrested on Tuesday reportedly with stolen items valued at about $6,000. He was also allegedly in possession of illegal drugs.

Further investigation led them to obtain a warrant for the arrest of 46-year-old David W. Bugden of Murray. Bugden was picked up by deputies on Thursday.

Burress and Bugden were both charged with four counts of receiving stolen property- firearms, receiving stolen property between $500 and $1,000,  and possession of firearms by a convicted felon. Burress was additionally charged with possession of methamphetamine and marijuana.

Burress was previously convicted on drug charges in 2018. Bugden was out on bond from a case in November of 2022 and has previous drug and theft convictions from 2018.
