Inspection of US 51 Ohio River Bridge takes place August 22

Traffic on the US 51 Ohio River "Cairo" Bridge will be restricted to one lane starting August 22.

Officials will conduct a detailed inspection of the bridge, with the work zone remaining in place from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. each day for five days.

There will additionally be a maximum 10 foot load width restriction. However, farmers and businesses with wide loads will be able to cross the bridge prior to the start of, or after the end of hte daily inspection work.

Officials will use an Under Bridge Inspection Vehicle on the lower portion of the bridge. Once work with the UBIV is completed, the remainder of the inspection will be conducted by climbers with only small impacts to traffic flow.
