Calvert couple charged with murder in death of infant

A Calvert City couple has been charged with murder after the death of their infant daughter.

Calvert City Police arrested 18-year-old Albert L. Walker and 20-year-old Cheyenne S. Driver on Monday, just four days after their daughter died from her injuries at Vanderbilt Medical Center. 

On January 17th, police and EMS were called to the Calvert City Apartments after the parents said the child was barely breathing. Officers noted that the child had visible injuries and was having increasing difficulty breathing. Walker reportedly told police that a couple of hours earlier he tripped on some stairs and dropped the child. He said the child fell ten or eleven steps onto the floor.   

The child was taken to Baptist Hospital in Paducah before flying her to Vanderbilt in Nashville. 

The investigation determined that baby Breanna had been in the NICU for a period of time after her birth before being released to go home with Walker and Driver in November. The baby had reportedly suffered head injuries, broken bones, and other bruises since November. 

After interviews with police last week, Driver and Walker were initially charged with criminal abuse of a child under 12, endangering the welfare of a minor, and failure to report child neglect or abuse. Following Breanna's death on the 23rd, an autopsy was performed and the charges were increased to murder.

The investigation is continuing.
