An Illinois man awaiting sentencing after a previous McCracken drug conviction was arrested Tuesday on drug trafficking and other offenses.
Officers stopped a vehicle Tuesday night in the parking lot of a motel on Cairo Road. The driver, 32-year-old Davaar Q. Shannon, reportedly fled, but was arrested soon after.
A search of Shannon's backpack reportedly uncovered nearly a pound of marijuana, $2,100 in cash, two cell phones, and a box of plastic bags. Officers said additional marijuana and oxycodone was found in his vehicle. In addition, authorities said a bottle Shannon dropped contained 22 oxycodone pills.
Officers obtained a search warrant for the room Shannon was staying in, leading to a marijuana possession charge for an unnamed woman.
Shannon was arrested and charged with trafficking in marijuana, trafficking in an unspecified drug, fleeing or evading police, resising arrest, criminal mischief, driving with a suspended license, and other traffic violations.
He was taken to the McCracken County jail.
On February 23, Shannon entered an Alford plea to a charge of trafficking in a controlled substance and pleaded guilty to trafficking in marijuana, trafficking in a controlled substance, and fleeing or evading police.
He was scheduled to be sentenced on May 3.
