Ice storm warning issued for Calloway, Trigg and southern Pennyrile

An ice storm warning is in effect until 6 pm today for Calloway, Trigg, Christian, Muhlenberg and Todd counties.

Significant ice accumulations between a quarter to half of an inch are expected, along with additional snow and sleet accumulations up to two inches.

A half-inch of freezing rain is a severe event, typically causing widespread power outages, extensive tree damage, and impassable roads. It can cause utility poles to snap and branches to fall, creating dangerous travel and potential long-duration power outages.  

Extreme cold will exacerbate the danger.
