A Hopkinsville man was arrested following a pursuit on Sunday after allegedly stealing from a youth football program.

According to WKDZ, Hopkinsville Police tried to stop 46-year-old James Phillips Jr. while he drove along the Pennyrile Parkway. Phillips reportedly fled off the Parkway onto Pembroke Road through stop lights and into oncoming traffic. Speeds reached over 100mph before Phillips crashed into a field. He tried to run from the scene but was arrested in short order.

Police accused Phillips of taking a trailer with over $60,000 in football equipment from the Hopkinsville Christian County Bud Hudson Youth League. He is also reportedly a suspect in several other thefts. Police have not located the trailer or the equipment but are reportedly following up on several leads.

Phillips was arrested and charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, wanton endangerment of a police officer, fleeing or evading police, and traffic violations. Phillips was also served with warrants charging him with theft by unlawful taking, criminal mischief, and failure to appear.
