Hazel man jailed following weekend altercation

A Hazel man was arrested Sunday afternoon following a disturbance and altercation on Lavender Street in Hazel.

The Calloway County Sheriff's Office said 45-year-old Jacob Gyles had been involved in an altercation with another individual.  Investigators said Gyles allegedly struck the victim on the head with a golf club, resulting in serious physical injury.

Further investigation revealed that Gyles had an outstanding warrant issued by Muhlenberg County in connection with a prior Kentucky State Police investigation. He was taken into custody and transported to the Calloway County Detention Center.

The victim was alert and conscious at the time of transport and was taken to a local hospital by ambulance for further evaluation and treatment.
