Some low-income residents of McCracken County will receive dentures thanks to a $25,000 grant.
WellCare of Kentucky announced the grant on Thursday to benefit the Family Service Society's emergency denture program.
The agency frequently receives requests for help with dental care, but due to funding limitations, those eligible often have to wait up to six months.
Thanks to the grant, the Family Service Society said this wait time will be greatly reduced and provide relief for more than two dozen McCracken County residents.
Eligibility is based on income and dental health history. Those who qualify will be scheduled for a consultation with a local dentist.
Anyone interested in applying for the free denture program should contact the Family Service Society at 270-443-4838.
Family Service Society director Candace Woleben said she is looking forward to the transformative effect this program will have on many of their clients.
She said, "A new set of teeth can be life changing. Not only are we restoring their smile, but we’re also restoring their self-confidence."
