Inflation is still a worry for everyone, but at least locally, gasoline prices have been bucking the trend.
A handful of gas stations in Graves County have recently been sellling regular gas at less than three dollars a gallon. Murphy Express in Mayfield is at 2.92 according to Gasbuddy.com. and a Minit Mart and Marathon location are close behind at 2.93 and 2.99. Fristoe's Grocery and Restaurant near West Viola has also been selling gas for 2.99.
On Paducah's southside, stations range from 3.02 to 3.07, and the mall area sells gas from 3.07 to 3.09.
That's a far cry from prices that spiked around 4.50 per gallon earlier this year. Gasbuddy reports that less demand for gasoline and lower crude oil prices have actually helped prices fall under the three dollar mark at almost ten percent of stations around the country -- mostly in the South.
Gas can be found today in Baton Rouge, Louisiana for 2.72, and Jackson, Mississippi for 2.82.
Experts say prices could average under three dollars nationwide by the end of October if war (Ukraine) or weather (a hurricane) doesn't intervene.
The national price for gas has fallen for the 14th week in a row, the longest down streak in 7 years, according to Gasbuddy.
Kentucky's statewide average price this week is about $3.27 per gallon.
One other factor that may soon affect prices at the pump will be the transition to winter blends of fuel in some parts of the country.
