Elements of the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) at Fort Campbell have been ordered to deploy to Europe in support of Joint Task Force Dragon to assist the NATO Allies as tensions between Russia and Ukraine continue to increase.

A release from the installation said units would join the 18th Airborne Corps elements already deployed to the region.

“As we have since 1942, the 101st Airborne Division stands ready to deploy anywhere to support and defend the Nation and our Allies,” said Maj. Gen. JP McGee, commanding general of the 101st Abn. Div. and Fort Campbell.

101st public affairs officer Lt. Col. Kari Mcewen said preparations for this deployment had been underway for several weeks. The soldiers are ready and will provide valuable support to Polish Allies.

Fort Campbell did not release how many soldiers or from what units would be deployed.
