Kirksey man arrested for murder following Metropolis truck stop fight

A fight at a truck stop in Metropolis resulted in the death of one man and a murder charge for a Kirksey man Tuesday night.

Metropolis Police said they were called to Acee's Truck Stop around 10:40 pm to a fight in progress. Officers  reportedly found a victim on the floor of the gaming room once they arrived.

Surveillance footage allegedly showed 36-year-old Jonathon J. Riley of Kirksey pepper spray the victim and knock him to the floor. Riley then allegedly choked the victim and put his body weight on the man's neck with his knee until the man fell unconscious. 

Officers attempted to render aid to the man before he was taken to Massac Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead around 11:30 p.m.

The name of the victim has not been released pending notification of the family.

Riley was arrested and charged with first degree murder and taken to the Massac County Jail.
