More battles with field fires were waged Monday in Massac, Hickman and Fulton counties.

A large field fire burned in eastern Massac County at Pell Road and Powers Church Road north of Brookport.

Preliminary reports were that two houses might have been destroyed in the fire, but later word from the Massac County fire chief indicated that a barn was the biggest structure lost in the 70-acre blaze that had surrounding roads blocked for several hours. Fire crews stayed on the scene overnight, and were still putting out hot spots the next day before rain arrived.

Massac County Fire requested assistance from Metropolis Fire Department to battle the blaze, and later reached out to Concord Fire Department in McCracken County.

Later Monday evening, US 51 in western Kentucky was blocked by emergency vehicles fighting a fire between Fulton and Clinton.

Fulton County's 911 dispatch reported that the fire was along the Fulton/Hickman county line near the Crutchfield community.

Crews from Fulton, Fulton County, Hickman County and Water Valley responded to the site.
