FEMA posted Thursday that western Kentucky families affected by the state's May tornadoes and landslides may be eligible for FEMA Child Care Assistance, even if they did not have property damage.

Residents in Caldwell, Calloway, Trigg, Christian, Hopkins, Muhlenberg, Simpson and Todd counties may apply.

FEMA may award child care assistance under its Other Needs Assistance program. Assistance may be available for up to eight weeks at up to $1,260 per child under the age of 13, or households with children with a disability up to age 21.

To qualify, applicants must have necessary expenses caused by the disaster, such as their child care facility damaged or out of operation. Households must certify they cannot utilize child care services provided by any other source.

For additional information, contact the FEMA Helpline at 800-621-3362 or visit a Disaster Recovery Center in locations including Princeton, Murray, Cadiz, Central City or Madisonville. To find a center near you, visit fema.gov/drc  .

It is not necessary to go to a center to apply for FEMA assistance. Click here for a video on how to get assistance from FEMA.
