The biggest snow storm of the year already dropped 3 to 5 inches of snow west Kentucky roadways. Travel is extremely hazardous and dozens of accidents have occurred.

KYTC highway crews will continue to plow and treat roads in order of their priority routes.

Highway crews reported last night that during the heavist snowfall, their plows were being passed on the interstate by cars and semis going 70 miles per hour.

At 9:20 pm, one lane of I-24 was blocked in McCracken County to remove a car from the median at the 5 mile marker.

I-24 in Lyon County is back open after a crash Tuesday afternoon involving two semis in the eastbound lanes near the 36 mile marker. Traffic had to be diverted through the commercial vehicle weigh station until the crash could be cleared.

Another crash Tuesday at the 31 mile marker involved a commercial vehicle and a snowplow.

KYTC closed the US 45 Brookport bridge Tuesday evening. The bridge's steel deck can become icy with the precipitation combined with subfreezing temperatures. With temperatures staying bitterly cold the rest of the week, it could be the weekend before the bridge can reopen.

Before the snow became a problem, US 51 in Hickman County was temporarily blocked to allow crews to remove a commercial vehicle from the roadway. Over the weekend, the semi was swept off the roadway along a flooded section of US 51 between the 4 and 5-mile markers when the driver drove around road closed signs.
