Now into its fourth month, construction activity along Cairo Road at the I-24 Exit 3 interchange has entered its final phase with hopes to complete the extensive concrete project by the end of the month.
On Friday morning, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet shifted 2-way traffic to another section of new concrete along the work zone. That prepares the way for crews on Monday to remove the last section of asphalt along the old eastbound lane and shoulder, then replace it with 10-inch deep concrete.
Left turns are still prohibited at the I-24 Exit ramps, and U-turns are not allowed at the ends of the construction.
The target date of completion of the 4-month-long project is June 30.
