A call about a disabled vehicle on the side of a road ended with drug charges for a pair in Calloway County on Saturday.

Deputies were called at 7am to Cassity Lane in reference to a vehicle that appeared disabled but was half in the roadway. Once they arrived they said they noticed two people asleep in the truck. The driver, 61-year-old Bobby D. Thompson of Benton, allegedly stated he had attempted to turn around and had gotten stuck a few hours earlier. Thompson also reportedly admitted to knowing that his license had been suspended. Deputies said the license plate that was on the truck belonged to a different vehicle.

Deputies also discovered Thompson and his passenger, 67-year-old Kathy Bailey of Symsonia, were in possession of illicit drugs.

Thompson was charged with operating on a suspended license, failure of owner to maintain required insurance, no registration plate, and possession of a controlled substance.

Bailey was charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
