An ongoing investigation involving the sexual abuse of a child culminated in a drone search and a foot chase on Saturday in Graves County.

On Thursday, deputies searched the Water Valley residence of 39-year-old Alex N. Powell. Powell was not present and went on the run from authorities.

On Saturday afternoon, detectives received a tip that Powell was hiding in the woods off of KY 2422 near the Camp Beauregard Cemetery. Deputies searched the area with the help of a drone operated by Mayfield Fire and Rescue.

After the suspect was identified using the drone, he ran through the woods past some deer hunters who called 911.

The chase continued through fields and a creek before Powell was captured.

He was arrested and transported to Jackson Purchase Medical Center for medical clearance after stating that he had been using fentanyl, then taken to an out of county detention center.

Powell's charges include sexual abuse of a child under 16 and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
