The Department of Energy is seeking offers from companies that would like to build an AI data center in Paducah.
The DOE’s Office of Environmental Management put out the request for offer on Tuesday. The call for proposals comes after the Trump Administration identified the former Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant as one of four prime candidates for the expansion of AI infrastructure on federal sites. They are seeking American companies to engage in a long-term lease for land at the site, where a partner could tap into the robust utility connections of the location.
DOE Assistant Secretary for the Office of Environmental Management Tim Walsh said, "Thanks to President Trump's leadership, America is ushering in a golden era of American energy dominance, ensuring the United States remains a global leader in AI and innovation. Paducah has the resources and vision to support the next generation of AI infrastructure, creating new opportunities for prosperity while advancing national security for future generations."
According to the request, a company entering into an agreement with the DOE would be responsible for building and operating its facility, as well as forging agreements with the utilities servicing the area.
Proposals must be submitted to the Department of Energy by January 30th, 2026.
