Crittenden County's jailer has announced her resignation.

The Crittenden Press reported Athena Hayes tendered her resignation during Thursday night's Crittenden Fiscal Court meeting.  Hayes' resignation is effective September 30th, about three months before the completion of her four year term she was elected to in November, 2022.

Hayes had sought a second term, but was defeated by former jailer Robbie Kirk in the May Republican primary.  There will be no Democratic challenger in the November general election.

Hayes did not comment on her resignation..

Under Kentucky law, the county judge-executive will appoint a replacement for the remainder of Hayes' term..
