A state and federal fugitive from Crittenden County sought since July was captured in Central City.
The Muhlenberg County Sheriff’s Department said that several local, state and federal agencies were conducting surveillance Tuesday at a local motel. They observed 35-year-old Kenneth Brian Fitzgerald get into a car.
As they attempted an arrest, Fitzgerald fled in the car, ramming a Kentucky State Police cruiser, and colliding with two parked vehicles. He nearly collided with a Lyon County deputy and a federal ATF agent before losing control of the vehicle. Police said he then ran into a wooded area where he was taken into custody.
Police said suspected meth, marijuana, fentanyl and a loaded firearm were seized.
In July, the Crittenden County Sheriff’s Office reported that Fitzgerald escaped during an arrest at his residence in southern Crittenden County.
At the home, agents reportedly discovered ammunition, books on munitions and improvised explosive devices, as well as steel flechette, which are sharpened metal projectiles used in bombs. They also discovered a large marijuana grow consisting of over 70 marijuana plants, a large amount of dried marijuana, heroin and a handgun. The following day, authorities reportedly seized several large pounds of methamphetamine.
Police said that within a 48-hour time frame, over $200,000 in drugs and cash were seized that is believed to belong to Fitzgerald.
Fitzgerald is charged with fleeing and evading police, leaving the scene of an accident, and wanton endangerment. An accomplice, 30-year old Lee Adams of Kuttawa, was also located in Central City and arrested on charges of possessing meth.
