One dead after semi-trailer crash in Ballard County

A collision with a semi trailer claimed the life of a Ballard County woman on Saturday. 

State Police were called at 8:30 pm by the Ballard County Sheriff's Office to investigate a collision that occurred on US 51 at the intersection of Union Construction Gate Road. 

Police said a tractor-trailer, operated by 57-year-old Brian K. Bender of Tyner, NC, was backing across both lanes of US 51 into the entrance of the Phoneix Paper Mill. Police said 70-year-old Theresa Polivick of Wickliffe failed to see the truck and collided with the semi-trailer, coming to rest under the trailer.

Polivick was transported by AirEvac to an out-of-state hospital where she was later pronounced deceased.

Polivick's passenger, 70-year-old Larry Polivick, was also transported to an out-of-state hospital where he remains in stable but critical condition.
