Calloway County will celebrate its 200th anniversary with bicentennial ceremonies next week.
In 1821, the Kentucky legislature took land from Livingston and Caldwell counties to form Hickman County. Hickman was then further divided into the counties of Calloway (1822), Graves (1823) and McCracken (1825).
To celebrate the county’s 200th anniversary, the Calloway County Fiscal Court will host a bicentennial celebration in Central Park on Thursday, November 3.
At 9 am, a special called Fiscal Court meeting will replicate the county’s first formal act of government, along with visits by state and national leaders, patriotic music from school bands and choirs, and a color guard.
A bicentennial history book will be available to purchase.
At 5 pm, a community reception will be held at Lovett Auditorium. Coincidentally, Murray State University is celebrating its 100th anniversary, and the Murray Independent School district is celebrating its 150th anniversary in 2022.
