The Murray Police Department has a new chief.
The Murray City Council unanimously voted to appoint Sam Bierds as Chief of Police on Thursday night. He previously served as the assistant chief.
Bierds has 19 years of service in law enforcement, and he has been with the Murray Police Department since 2010.
Bierds is an alumni of Murray High School and Murray State University. He has Law Enforcement Manager and Law Enforcement Executive certificates from the Kentucky Law Enforcement Council. He is currently pursuing a Master’s in Justice Administration from the University of the Cumberlands.
