A Barlow woman was arrested and charged with vehicle theft after a traffic stop in Benton.

Benton Police said an officer was traveling south on Main Street when he was passed on a double yellow line by a pickup truck. The officer attempted to stop the truck, but it pulled into the Priceless IGA parking lot. The driver tried to spin the truck around to get away. The officer took the driver, 42-year-old Melissa M. Martin of Barlow, into custody.

A computer check showed that the truck had allegedly been stolen from Carlisle County. Police also reportedly found an open alcohol container and a weapon in the truck.

Martin is facing charges of receiving stolen property under $10,000, possession of an open alcohol container in a vehicle, possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, reckless driving, and improper passing.
