A Barlow woman was arrested and charged with vehicle theft after a traffic stop in Benton.

Benton Police said an officer on patrol on Main Street was passed on a double yellow line by a pickup truck. The officer attempted to stop the truck, but it pulled into a parking lot, and the driver tried to spin the truck around to get away. The officer took the driver, 42-year-old Melissa M. Martin of Barlow, into custody.

A computer check showed that the truck had been stolen from Carlisle County. Police also reportedly found an open alcohol container and a weapon in the truck.

Martin is facing numerous charges including receiving stolen property, possession of a handgun and reckless driving.
