Reports came in Sunday evening of a tornado near Eddyville on a path to Princeton that caused some damage to homes and a few minor injuries.

At 8:04 pm, the National Weather Service office in Paducah sent out an alert that a radar confirmed tornado was on the ground. That was later backed up by Kentucky Transportation Cabinet personnel, Lyon County Emergency Management, and a number of eyewitness accounts and photos from residents.

The tornado crossed US 641 northeast of Eddyville, then brought down a large tree north of the US 62 intersection near the railroad overpass.  That initially hampered efforts to reach the path of the tornado.

More reports soon came in of a tornado touching down north of Princeton. Judge-executive Kota Young told WPKY that the tornado apparently lifted up and touched back down several times through that residential neighborhood north of I-69 near Old Wilson Warehouse Road and Bethany Church Road.

Officials said there were a few minor injuries, and a few residents were assisted getting out of their homes.

US 641, KY 91 and KY 293 were blocked for a time at various locations by downed trees and power lines. The heavy rain that accompanied the damaging winds also caused high water over KY 91 and KY 139.
