The U.S. Department of Defense has announced the next commanding general for the 101st Airborne Division at Fort Campbell.

Major General Brett Sylvia would be the 51st person to lead the Screaming Eagles. The 50-year-old leader has served as the vice director for the Joint Staff’s strategy, plans, and policy since 2021.

Sylvia previously served as the deputy commanding general of the 1st Cavalry Division.

He is a Missouri native and a 1994 graduate of the United States Military Academy with a B.S. degree in environmental engineering.

He will take the command from Major General J.P. McGee, who has served as commanding general of the 101st since March of 2021. It’s a command that usually rotates on two-year cycles.
