The community is invited to attend the ribbon cutting ceremony for the Southside Community Gardens on Saturday at 2 p.m.
The gardens are located near the intersection of South 13th and Tennessee Street in the Walter Jetton neighborhood.
The site includes ten raised garden beds located on city-owned vacant lots.
The goal of the project is to provide fresh produce to local residents and help alleviate food insecurities.
A large group of volunteers, many from various Southside faith-based organizations, will organize the volunteer team who will maintain the garden beds and develop the process of distributing the food to residents.
Paducah’s Parks & Recreation Department is providing fencing and general maintenance for the gardens, and Mercy Health – Lourdes Hospital is providing a $2500 sponsorship for the project.
