Rachel Brockman is the first Teacher of the Month for the 2023-2024 school year. Brockman is a special education teacher at Livingston County Middle School. This award cycle, our teachers will be asked 10 questions. We think it's a great way to get to know our winners!

What is your first memory from school? “I remember being in kindergarten and going a half-day. And playing with blocks.”

Is there a quote or saying that you live your life by? “Always treat others how you would want to be treated.”

What makes a good day at school? “No schedule changes! For the population I work with, it’s important to have a consistent routine!”

What sort of morning routine do you have to get jazzed for class? “I always be sure to tell my students GOOD MORNING and talk to them about their day. Also, ask them any questions about their weekend.”

How do you remember all of your students’ names? “From the beginning of the year it just takes a couple of days. If you put their grades in and see their names enough, it is almost automatic.”

What school sport or activity do you enjoy watching? “I like watching the kids play basketball.”

If you could take your students on a field trip anywhere in the world, where would you take them and why? “Historical places, like Washington, D. C. to see where our country was founded and where things took place.”

What would you students be surprised to find out about you? Or What is one of your hidden talents? “That I can dance.” The LCMS Principal can vouch for this!

How do you show your school spirit? “I wear my red every Friday!”

If you could pass on any wisdom to your students, what would you share? “Always believe in yourself and never stop working or trying for want you want to achieve.”

West Kentucky Star Teacher of the Month, sponsored by Scott Walker Construction, is awarded each month of the school year. This award is the first for the 23-24 school year. Brockman will join the remainder of Teachers of the Month next summer for West Kentucky Star Teacher of the Year 2023-2024.

Check the WestKentuckyStar.com CONTEST tab to nominate your favorite teacher for the current Teacher of the Month.
